David Ruttura is an American Theater, Film, and Television Director.

David Ruttura was born and raised on Long Island and has, surprisingly, always been proud of it. It allowed him to spend his high school days cutting school on Wednesdays to rush tickets to Broadway matinees and on Fridays to spend time in Montauk. He no longer cuts anything except superfluous ideas. Hire him if you need someone to help structure your musical - that kind of engineering is his jam. He’s also really good at the detail work required for developing new plays. He can do funny, he can do sad, he can do serious.

David believes that story is king, audience connection is key, and the rest is just dressing. He creates a clear vision that is populist, engenders understanding and provokes empathy. Questions are our friends and listening is vital. This philosophy is why he is most interested in work that is outside of his immediate experiences.

He loves putting together a rowdy, smart team of people with good ideas and the passion to back them up. He loves to collaborate. He also doesn’t take himself too seriously and is sometimes wrong. After all, he is not king, the story is.

David misses Hal Prince and Sydney Lumet and struggles writing about himself in the third person.
